Honestly, I would paint the oak trim out in white - it gives you way more color options and updates the space without taking away from the vintage feel.

Depends what look you are going for, but I like an eclectic look - try this simple Asian furniture piece that can be used as a bar or for extra storage.
I think layering multiple natural textures and colors are key, but simplicity in the style of furniture, whether antique or contemporary, are very important as well.
Not shown in the diagram, but we built a 6'x5' wall covered in grasscloth that hangs from the ceiling to provide some privacy. You can see the edge of it next to the nightstand.

I think color is key. I like a mix of modern, vintage and traditional but always keep within the same colors schemes.

The "B" was an eBay purchase. It is an old neon channel letter.
