I think this would only work if you have a straight, flat edge on your original countertop. Our formica has a curved edge with a bit of a lip to keep spills contained.
I am also blown away by the no-formica countertop mention. I would love to have marble in our kitchen, but since I don't plan on staying here for life, it makes no sense to have the fanciest count...
