I lived in Sichuan for a year and fell head over heels in love with the food, which practically revolves around these peppercorns and dried red chilies.
I can't recommend Fuschia Dun...
Does anyone have an idea about a good scraper to use to clean it with? I have a ceramic cookie sheet that is in desperate need of some scraping, too, in addition to the pizza stone.
I have a kind of silly question about when/how to cut herbs from container gardening. I have a rosemary plant and a chive plant and am thinking about buying pots of mint and basil. (Not adventuro...
I checked out King Arthur Flour's Whole Grain Baking from our library and was sad when I had to return it. I only baked the quickbreads and muffins, but the ones I did were delicious and didn't ta...
ll, that sounds fantastic. YUM.
I'm (crosses her fingers) going to try my hand at a loaf of bread--the country-style loaf from Daniel Leader's Bread Alone, which I finally got from th...
I am lucky to have married into a good set of knives. :) My husband used to be a Cutco salesman. And while it is kind of a knife-selling cult, man, those things are good. I use the chef's knife ...
Susan,
Thanks! The pans look great and aren't too expensive either. (A good thing, since one of the reasons I'm interested in baking is because good bakery bread is the price of solid gold ...
A bit of a silly question to all the wise cooks out there: My husband and I are (for the next 3 months at least), making do with a 75-sq foot kitchen/eating space...which doesn't leave much room fo...
What a great Mother's Day gift! I'd definitely put in my great-grandmother's recipe for homemade chicken & dumplings and my mom's delicious red velvet cake and pumpkin roll recipes. (Hey, I'm fro...
What a beautiful loaf! I'm curious--what type/brand of loaf pans would you all recommend for someone who's starting out & would like to learn how to make sandwich loaves?

I will second both the recommendations for steaming/boiling and lightly salting. I lived in China for a year, and these were great as an appetizer or to balance spicy dishes.
I love e...
Thanks, classiccook--I'll have to buy one if I see one (not that likely at the neighborhood Publix, I'm afraid :) and give it a shot. Maybe the skins on the Asian ones were thicker.

I have a question for all of you. At my house, we have been addicted to spinach salads with a warm bacon vinaigrette. I've been serving these in a nice wooden salad bowl that I have, but I've not...
I miss pomelos! I ate them all winter when I lived in China for a year. So delicious...although the streetside fruit sellers would always cut them and peel them for me with their machete-like kni...
I went vegetarian for Lent, so I'm trying my hand at making beef bourguignon. Bacon beef chocolate (!!!) plus a bottle of wine = yum. Also some grilled asparagus, a salad, a simple yellow cak...

I think if I had a kitchen half as lovely as any of these I might die of happiness.

We just had purple potatoes last night for the first time. I love how unique they look...almost like something that should be in a Dr. Seuss book.

So smart with the bookshelves/kitchen storage idea. I had a major case of kitchen lust when I saw it... :)
