I just did the desk idea the other day. I replaced a huge desk with one of these shelves, stuck a slide-out keyboard tray and wire caddy underneath, and voila!
Maybe when they start offering green furniture, etc., they can forget about the $1 plastic bag guilt tax and just eliminate plastic bags altogether? hejiranyc: I second your comment. Veggie Swedish...
I'm definitely leaning toward "another piece of unnecessary plastic". Realistically, if you're going to keep appliances unplugged when they aren't used, you don't need a little hook to remind you ...

I'm going to go with gimmick on this one. I cannot come up with a reason for having to pack up your dining table, even in the smallest of apartments.
