Marisajane, it is strong enough to function as a low bench as long as you put some legs in the center for added support. I put six legs on mine, but you may even want eight.
I'm thinking of putting this in my bathroom as well, but am hesitant to buy an entire roll for one tiny window. Anyone in the Boston area interested in sharing and splitting the cost?

I agree... the tall lack is actually much more useful when turned on its side.
