I have an Ideal Auto-Lock tape measure. It glides very smoothly and is locked by default so you pull the tape out and it stays out until you press the button. Good quality and easy to use for $17.
Looks like a DIY possiblity. Just put a piece of wood backing on it and screw it back on. All you need to do is make sure the screw has something solid to go into and you're good.
