@peachpie You think you're on a path to the Grand Canal and suddenly it ends. So you turn around. Now... was it this piazza or that one that I turned at last? Whoops... Now where am I? Oh! A ...
haha! I have news for you, you get lost in Venice even WITH a map. It's a maze, for sure. After an hour, I gave up and just pointed myself in the general direction I wanted to go and kept walking.
Heh, traveling light saved me and my traveling companion a great deal of stress on the way home from Italy. Despite having taken off on time, our flight landed half an hour late in New York so our...
@annelynsey, I'm going to have to try that! I can't seem to roast a chicken to save my life so maybe poaching will be a good way to go.
I make stock because I have a couple of recipes ...
What a lovely green space in the City! Part of the reason I don't live there is that it's so barren (the other part being rent! O_o) but you've done such an amazing job of bringing life in. Bravo!
I'm going to agree with Faith and suggest trying to put as many cookie things in as possible. My mom's recipe is shortening (skip it), sugar, brown sugar, eggs, flour (skip it), baking soda (skip)...
Jams and marmalades are my favorites. Thanks for the clarification on "preserves." I see the word used on jars in the store all the time but wasn't sure how it was different from jam.
Yeah, a fried egg (no crispy edges, please!) over pasta is amazingly comforting.
I also like them over braised cabbage or rice and I've been frying up two eggs (broken yolks for neatne...
Thank you for mentioning the WWII internment of the Japanese. A lot of people don't know about it and forget that we did some pretty horrible things during that war, too.
The kitsune ...
@Tallsarah, you don't get much jam? Seriously? My recipe says it makes 8 pints and I usually get 10 or eleven. I gave a jar to my folks, my grands, my aunt and uncle, jars to friends and two jar...
@ndk, I'm jealous! I bet that sounded amazing. Huge bells are some of my favorite sounds.
I was going to suggest using it as a planter but now I'm going to second ndk's idea. You co...
Man, my cat, too. Only she just likes to lay on top of them and yank leaves out. Not to eat, not to play with, just for the sake of yanking them out.
I have oodles of small plants in...
If you decide to cook the forbidden rice by itself, be sure and add a little salt. I find it's much improved from the no-salt version. I'll have to give this recipe a try, for sure.
@lise1914, not me! Sage was pretty close, so was gravel, but Poppy was right out. It talks about being a party girl and choosing unusual clothes. I hate parties and dress really conservatively, ...
I'll second what BiasCut said. From my own experience, you have to try something, then try it again, and sometimes even again. I NEVER ate onions until I went away to college but now I love them....

I pack my zest, but then I quite like lemon. It's probably a matter of taste. I've never tried freezing it, either.

It sounds like masa harina is similar to grits. I remember hearing that they're processed with alkalai before being ground, too.

@clampers, I'm pretty sure they call it milk paint because it's made with milk.
