I would be somewhat horrified if this was someone's actual house, but as a vacation house it is kind of cool. I wouldn't want to go there, but it is certainly very well done for what it is.
I tried this and wound up with lovely terracotta colored eggs. I made a giant batch of caramelized onions (for the freezer) at the same time, avoiding the naked onion problem.
The ability to watch TV in the kitchen was how my parents were able to bribe us into doing dishes more often (we were expected to help periodically anyway).
Del Mar shouldn't really count as a small town, though, as its borders merge fairly seamlessly with surrounding towns/cities. It's really more part of the greater San Diego suburbs.

My mom's spaghetti container had a pasta measurer built into the lid. I'm not sure how much we actually used it, though.
Solution: don't get a wire mesh strainer. Mine is a sheet of metal with a bunch of little holes in it and is much easier to keep clean. :)
