I have used the plug-in air freshener "pill". Quite a strong scent (I used sweet water) and fades in about a month. I do with they had other scents to try, besides sweet water and lavender.

Keep the futon; ignore what the others are saying. I think it looks cosy, and as a fellow futon sleeper, a good futon is like sleeping on heaven. Beautiful space.
