It's definitely at least as much space for one person than I got in my shared double as an undergrad. Too bad it wasn't approved.

We're working to make our home more energy- and water-efficient. Why? Partly because we think it's the right thing to do. Partly because we want to lower our usage and bills. And partly because we ...

I eat a great many foods that are not organic. However, the first switch to organic that I made was dairy. If I have to cut back, it will be the last switch back that I make. However, ...

"The very least, why doesn't a soda/milk company offer glass bottles that you could return to a store for them to reuse? This still happens in some countries." I've found those contain...

Given Marion Nestle's recent comments on production v. transportation when it comes to food, I suspect bamboo is still greener than not.

I use my homemade all-purpose cleaner spray, which consists of water, Dr. Bronner's soap, and washing soda. Works like a charm.

I love these sponges. We finally worked through the bag of synthetic sponges from Costco, and I was able to start using the TJ sponges. They clean really nicely (although I need to find something s...

I would say badly-planned suburbs are the problem, not suburbia in and of itself. And as art points out, it's not like cities are car-free wonderlands. There is room in the world for a...

The gym clothes get washed on cold. Between the soap and the washing soda, there's no smell when they're done. Regular clothes get washed on warm. Towels and sheets get washed on hot.

Trappers, motivated by market demand, killed so many beavers that the West's watershed has never been the same. The droughts of today are directly attributable to trapping. There is nothing inheren...

We're trying to keep "ecosystem" in mind. There was lots of rosemary when we moved in, and the bees love that. We've added birdfeeders, and the hummingbirds seem quite fond of the extant bouganvill...

I bike to the bus stop.

Fancy marketing term.

Los Angeles specifically says not to recycle coated milk cartons, but I would rinse off the cap and recycle that.

Umm, I read the instructions...check this out, @whytephoenix: "5. Bring water to a boil, turn heat down, and simmer for 20 minutes (longer if you plan on eating the eggs)."

Simmer for longer than 20 minutes if you're going to eat the eggs? That seems like an awfully long time. How hard-cooked does Martha like her eggs? Like marble?

How are they with foods that leave oil behind? Like, say, peanut butter cookies?

I just use baking soda and water--no salt. Sprinkle the baking soda over the mess and then sprinkle water over that (pre-mixing a paste makes sense for the sides, of course). Let sit overnight.

I wish Amy's would develop heating/cooking instructions that, when followed, actually resulted in hot food. I've used different ovens and microwaves, and their times (or temperatures?) are always r...
