My grandmother swore by lard, and I have found no good substitute for producing a nice flaky crust (less healthy though). The butter/shortening combo looks interesting, will have to try this.
Just bought this same Sandnes cabinet at IKEA last November, so they should still be around. It's currently functions as a "dressing table" in my very small bedroom, as the drawers hold hair dryer...

Ratatouille would be a good choice for a vegetable oriented dish. Freezes pretty well, too, so you could use your new dutch oven to make a big batch.
