True, Edieb. The Thin Man couldn't get much more unrealistic, and I love those movies. Great apartment, great 30s clothes, drunk as skunks all the time, and yet still solving crimes!

Honestly, for most of the existence of the world (until about the last 50 years), it was because, if you had sex, you ended up having kids. After that, I'm not sure. Everyone has different reasons.
Bluestar, that's (unfortunately) totally normal for custom-made blinds. That is why I bought fabric and a pattern and am going to a seamstress to have mine made!
It totally depends on the kid, imo, and I don't think 9 is young for a mature 9-year-old who has grown up in the city and knows the subway routes. Part of me thinks all this hysteria about parentin...
Ooh! I don't mean to schill, but I have this fabric. A LOT of this fabric. I think it's Osborne and Little Sylphe. If you want me to list it in the classifieds, let me know by posting here. I tried...
I hate to be a downer, but I wouldn't do it. Students need to study at odd hours. It doesn't seem worth it to me. The only way I think this would work is if you sleep the same amount, watch the sam...
It is disturbing to me that so many people have been commenting, in the contest and here, about bad parenting, based on a photograph of someone's house. Doesn't that seem like a giant leap of logic...
Wow, I can't believe people are being judgmental about parenting on a design blog! (And fyi, I have a cork floor in my kitchen, and it's soft underfoot.)
I am pretty sure this entry is...
The wood is really lovely. The layout is ingenious, but for some reason, the cabinets chosen just look cheap. Since there are so many, this is a major drawback. I'd also love to see the cabinets ab...
Not every mother wants to stay home, just like not all want to work. Why is that so hard to understand? Sure, there are people who change their minds (both ways, I might add), but I know plenty of ...
I liked Patrick and family's a wee bit better, and then I read your tasteless comment about his entry. Now I like his entry a whole lot better. Your closet wall is gorgeous, but those white cabinet...
Can I just say that I am SO SICK of all the "This isn't that small! My apartment is this small or smaller!"
Come on, people, 256 sq. feet is small, particularly for a family of three....
Love it! I think your living room is charming, and a great use of a limited space. Like the bathroom, too. My only criticism is that I think the yellow in the kitchen could be softer, but that's pe...
It's very pretty. I like the lightness and the airiness, but I'd love to see some color on the wall, even something pale and subtle. With all the white furniture, a contrast, even slight, would be ...

Or post your email, if you are okay with that! If not, just let me know to post it or not.

That is HYSTERICAL. How inventive.

I really want to know what that gray-green color is, but no one seems to be answering! (It was asked before in another post.)

Gorgeous! And that looks like wood veneer to me, not any plastic.
