Our weather's finally heating up here in Vancouver, just in time for the long weekend. Tonight, we had sweet onion quiche, salad, and hard cider while sitting on the porch and watching all the foot...
You already mentioned going mostly paperless and filing the rest, but what I do is keep the few paper documents I need in large envelopes, colour-coded for each project. I also use only one noteboo...
If it were me, I'd get some reclaimed red brick and use it to build the stove platform and brick the entire wall.
If that's too big a project, then just brick a column the width of th...
Given that any breakfast I'm most likely to enjoy involves lots and lots of syrup, I'll eat at the table, please. Coffee and a magazine in bed, however, was a great way to start my Mother's Day.
(Roethke, I'd go directly to the manufacturer to make a request. Cuisinart probably has contact info on their website.)
Well, we got our maker this weekend (my Mother's Day gift to mys...
ookimoo, the dresser looks phenomenal! I love your colour choices. And did you say that was the original hardware? Awesome.
I love the map wall, too. And you're going to keep the cat o...
We bought antique and vintage dressers for each of our sons. If you give yourself enough time, you can find wonderful pieces. I think we spent $400 and $300, respectively. They work(ed) perfectly a...
Thanks, mjoe! Between your rec and the recent post on the Cuisinart, I've put in a call to my local Williams-Sonoma and I'm picking up my ice cream maker (with extra freezer bowl -- whee!) this wee...
How are your shelving needs? I have a similar wall that runs along the hall and straight through my kitchen. It's the perfect place for my bookshelves: a set of three Ikea BILLY shelves, with heigh...
I was one of the people who asked for a recommendation, so thanks! And thanks to you, too, SexyAnteater, for the W-S tip. Now I'm off to see if they deliver to Canada...
cweingarten, I was about to ask the same thing. Does anyone have an ice-cream maker recommendation that doesn't necessitate buying an entire Kitchen-Aid mixer set-up?
MJW, I totally accept your grandma-by-proxy argument. So... when do I get some jam? ;)
Thanks for the tip re: "best before" dates. Now, I always make and give away cranberry sauce at t...
I guess I'm not the first person to log in almost solely for the purpose of complimenting the awesome cat. Fat tabbies are the best cats ever. Their owners are clearly people of taste and discernment.
My rule of thumb: I won't by jam that isn't made by somebody's grandma. I only buy from older women at farmer's markets, and I'm always happy with the result.
On a side note, a tip fo...
Tough one. I'm torn between 70s and 80s, but my vote ultimately went to the 80s. The fern made me hesitate, but this room makes me think of the various apartments in the movie Manhattan . Ass...
I've found that, since converting to mostly organic, we're much more careful about actually eating more of the food we buy. Sure, we may have gotten more food for our buck in the old days, but we a...
I've been keeping buttermilk in the house ever since I learned it's the secret behind awesome muffins and pancakes. Great to learn one more use for it!

Oh my goodness. I shouldn't have looked at this before dinner. Now my stomach is actually growling in response.

What a great photo (er, and poem... with all due respect to Rossetti). That is one rockin' 70s mom.

Would the recipe still work if you halved the ingredients?
