I would paint the walls a gorgeous bright color like turquoise or hot pink, with bright white moldings. I also liked "YAY!'s" idea of papering the top part of the wall and painting under the chair...

OK, I'll be the first to comment. I agree that you probably shouldn't paint the chair if it has some value. I think you can clean the wood, though. Ask a furniture specialist what you should use...
