I like that idea from Nordstroms... I used to work at a department store and it was ridiculous setting up for Christmas at the beginning of November.

If I were in America I would defin...

I get a little embarrassed about my apartment because

1. The neighborhood is pretty shabby. Not dangerous or anything, just not particularly nice. The sidewalks are cracked, there's o...

I absolutely love housesitting. I usually do it for my grandmother and take care of her two cats. She in turn usually (over)stocks the fridge with things that she thinks I'd like and usually leav...

I had the same problem with that Ikea rug, the sandy stuff it left behind drove me insane. I eventually threw it out. It got ratty after only a year.

I bought a nylon liner and hated it, because it would get wet and stick to the fabric curtain and they'd both end up soaked by the end of my long showers.

It might not be your style,...

I personally will not have anyone over unless the entire apartment has been cleaned [dusted, vacuumed, clean bathroom]. That's just a personal preference but I actually think it is a bit disrepsec...

My daily luxuries include:

*jersey knit sheets - soft and good in both summer and winter
* flannel jammies
* chocolate milk for breakfast

JG, thanks for the tip. However, I already have a silocone bath mat, which is about as anti-mildew as you can get. But apparently dead skin cells collect under the mat and the mildew grows on tha...

I got a wonderful rug from Ikea (a version of this one without the crazy pattern http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50163749)<...

Go Dulcibella. Other than free (and frankly, not even) would I venture into the retail world that weekend. I hate the term "Black Friday" regardless of the meaning. I also hate that the stores, tow...

This home is not at all to my liking (mostly I just do not like those couches at all), but I think it is a really interesting time capsule and it's also fun to think about the way that some people ...

I try other teas, especially "bedtime"-type teas, but I always find C.S. suits my needs the best, especially for the price. I think Pelican Punch was before my time...but I am intrigued...

Wow! Very inspiring and thank you for sharing...
Congrats to everyone! (esp local Vancouver international winner! Cheers neighbour!)

YA VANCOUVER!!!!

Thanks scavenger I bought the stack tables today.

As a former Visual Merchandiser for Nordstrom, I believe that they have always waited until the day after Thanksgiving before any Holiday displays and trim are on view. The Holiday trim is installe...

The watchmakers cases are aluminum, which I am careful to avoid for food & edibles.

This post shows a great idea with the 4oz jars! I can keep those on a wall and my bulkier spices ...

pillows are VERY easy to make--even with no prior sewing experience. I could go to a fabric store and find similar designs to DIY for MUCH cheaper with pretty professional results. $60 for a pillo...

I dropped all my old cleaners at the city's recycling and household hazardous waste center. Told them they could use them or dispose of them properly, whichever. They laughed and thanked me.

Oh and I absolutely love the three first pictures of the article!

Is there someone out there, living within the EU, who has some great tips on green bulbs? My experience so far is with bulbs of nasty colours only and since the electrical system in my flat is a bi...

I am so thankful we don't have Thanksgiving next week as some of you do! That would be just too much.

I have yet to finish scrubbing both the full bath downstairs and the powder room ...

Loved your childhood home. Unlike a few other posters, I do think your parent's home has withstood the test of time--the kitchen with the diagonal floors was great. The clean simplicity of the home...

Really? This is what passes for a "makeover" in Apartment Therapy? Where to begin? To me this looks like nothing more than a bed and a chair in a room. No design, no style...in short, a whole l...

Um, duck decoys with carnations? Or something with a car theme? WHEN will we get beyond the *gender identitified* and purely focus on taste and artistry? (with the exception of baby showers and swe...

Everything in this thread sounds so delicious! This weekend I'm getting ready for Thanksgiving by roasting sugar pie pumpkins, making a test pumpkin pie, and rich turkey stock for gravy. Last weeke...

I was a house sitter, I'd look after my friend's parents house and make sure the plants were watered, the cat was fed, give eye drops to the cat at night, and clean the house. Her cousin's family l...

Clever idea, I think it needs a bit more design work to sleek it down. Parts could be inflatable for seating/sleeping mode yet still small enough for carry on. In my experience, this would be incre...

I have been thinking about variations on this recipe and not being able to use liquids. I am thinking I may experiment with mixing flavorings and extracts into the powdered sugar and letting it dry...

I must be a real Scrooge but there is no way I could look at Christmas decorations in my home for 4 or 5 weeks. We decorate one week before Christmas and take down around New Years. I also avoid ...

The only reason the dressers are coveted (or seem to be) based on the writeup and the comment, is because of the photography. bad photography when you're trying to sell something is the worst. i'm ...

If it gives people pleasure to play with their possessions in this way, why not? They are the ones who live in their own dwellings.

But at the same time you can't have it both ways.

ORANGE!!

We have a double birthday party, and we're actually going out for msg-style Chinese food. Then everyone will come over for double cakes and cocktails.

I like how the antique/vintage case goods can warm up the rather sterile rooms (see #5) But what struck me about most of the others is that a gorgeous old piece can make the rest of the stuff look...

unplggd's getting popular enough for comment spam! alright!

sounds like we could avoid the amount of input anxiety by using a USB mouse and keyboard with the PS3.

I think it would be fun to do a stuffing-inspired egg strata as the main dish. You could do a really yummy sausage or bacon with some sage and some aromatics like you would put in a stuffing. I u...

What a fun place - it makes you want to be friends with Bryan, which I certainly don't feel about every house tour. I could never live in a space like this - there is far too much going on for me ...

Dave, your apartment has become my inspiration for the "grown up home" I will have one day. At the moment, I share an apartment with a friend from college and our landlord, while very cool with mo...

Can anyone say, too many pictures of the same thing? We saw the bed, and the couch, and the bed, and the couch.... I want to know what the kitchen looks like!

I agree. Lisa, I just saw your Tour and your place is exquisite. Such lovely Old World architecture, art and soft lighting. And I like your sense of humor!

i love the mexican hot chocolate candle by pacific during autumn

Sadly the in wall style of fireplaces generally do a really poor job of heating a house. If you want to use a fireplace as a main heat source a free standing model is much better.

bamboo plants work well but do require lots of watering

Does anyone remember the episode of The Simpsons where Homer gives Marge a bowling ball that says "Homer" on it? That would be me if I gave my husband flowers! =) But we often go to the Flower Ma...
